Suno just got named in one of the biggest AI posts of the day. On October 7, 2026, Elon Musk said Grok Bot will use “the best back end model for any given task,” and listed Suno right next to Claude Opus 5.5 and Midjourney.
The post on X went up at 8:46 AM Berlin time. By that afternoon it had 69,500 likes and 4,700 replies.
It reads like music generation inside Grok Bot will come from Suno, not from SpaceX’s own models. But Musk didn’t say that in so many words, and Suno hasn’t said anything at all.
What Elon Musk said about Grok Bot and Suno on October 7, 2026
Here’s the full post, word for word:
Important note regarding Grok @Bot: Going forward, @SpaceX will use the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs. Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.
Grok Bot is SpaceXAI’s agent product. It launched as a beta on August 11, and each Bot runs on its own cloud computer, can use a browser and work tools, and keeps going after you step away. Until now it ran on SpaceXAI’s own Grok models.
Musk’s post describes a plan and leaves out the details. It doesn’t say:
- Which tasks go to Suno, and which go to the other providers.
- When the routing starts, or whether you’ll see which model did the work.
- What SpaceX pays Suno, or whether there’s a deal at all.
That last point leads straight to the question I had first: how would Grok Bot even reach Suno?
Does Suno have an API that Grok Bot could use?
Not a public one. Suno’s Chief Product Officer Jack Brody said on July 1, 2026 that Suno is exploring a developer API, starting with a curated group of partners. He gave no launch date, and the only Suno APIs online so far are unofficial wrappers.
Musk’s post doesn’t say whether SpaceX is one of those early partners or has a separate deal with Suno.
Suno has done this kind of thing before. In December 2023, Microsoft put a Suno plugin inside Copilot, so people could make songs without ever opening suno.com.
What Grok Bot routing to Suno could mean for the songs it makes
Suno today is a different company from the one Microsoft plugged in. Since September 9, 2026, it only runs its licensed v6 models, built with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe. Universal and Sony are still suing it, and filed a second lawsuit on September 18.
For anyone making music through Grok Bot, that raises questions Musk’s post doesn’t touch:
- Whose terms apply to a song Suno makes for a Grok Bot user, Suno’s or SpaceX’s.
- Who owns the output, and whether you can release it on Spotify the way a paying Suno subscriber can.
- Whether it’s watermarked or labelled as AI the same way it would be on suno.com.
Meanwhile, SpaceXAI might be building its own music tool. RuntimeWire reported on September 26 that an X user posted an early Android preview of music generation inside Grok Imagine, though SpaceXAI hasn’t announced one.
For now, the only confirmed fact is that Suno is on Musk’s list. Once Grok Bot starts making songs, I’ll look at whose terms they come with.
Frequently asked questions
Can Grok make music on its own?
Not as a standalone feature that SpaceXAI has announced. Grok Imagine generates sound effects, ambience and dialogue together with video. On September 26, 2026, an X user posted what they called an early Android preview of music generation in Imagine, but RuntimeWire noted SpaceXAI's published materials don't describe a standalone music tool.
When will Grok Bot start using Suno?
Elon Musk didn't give a date. His October 7, 2026 post says SpaceX will use the best back end "going forward", but it gives no timeline, no list of which tasks go to which provider and no commercial terms.
How do you get access to Grok Bot?
SpaceXAI launched Grok Bot as a beta on August 11, 2026. According to its documentation, as summarized by RuntimeWire, access runs through paid Cursor plans or a linked SuperGrok subscription. Each Bot runs on its own cloud computer and can keep working after you step away.
Who owns Grok and SpaceXAI now?
SpaceX does. SpaceX's June 2026 prospectus says it acquired xAI, the company that built Grok, effective February 2, 2026, according to RuntimeWire. That's why Musk's post says @SpaceX will pick the back-end models.
