Mark Stuart hasn’t fronted Audio Adrenaline since 2007, when spasmodic dysphonia took his singing voice. Now he says the band might make a new record, with AI recreating that voice.

He floated it in an Instagram reel posted on September 24, 2026, filmed outside a restaurant in Franklin, Tennessee.

Listen, so we're talking about making an Audio A record, you know, using my voice, doing an AI thing.

For now it’s an idea. Stuart added that “it could be fun,” then closed the reel by asking fans, “what do you guys think? Should we do this?” There’s no tool, no release date and no lineup attached to it yet.

Former drummer Ben Cissell turns up in the same reel with a printed “drumming resume”, asking for his old job back. ChurchLeaders picked up the story on October 9, and by October 12 the reel had 157 comments.

Why Mark Stuart stopped singing for Audio Adrenaline

Stuart fronted Audio Adrenaline from 1986 to 2007, and in that run the band won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Gospel Album, for Worldwide and Until My Heart Caves In.

The problem was spasmodic dysphonia. The US National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders describes it as a disorder of the voice muscles in the larynx, and a chronic one that lasts a person’s whole life. Stuart told CBN he started struggling with his voice as early as 1998.

When Audio Adrenaline relaunched in 2012, Christian Today reported that Stuart would step down as lead vocalist because of the condition, and former DC Talk singer Kevin Max took the mic. Stuart wrote about losing his voice in his 2019 book Losing My Voice to Find It.

Can AI recreate a singer’s voice after they lose it? How Randy Travis’ team did it

Country singer Randy Travis had a stroke in 2013 that left him with aphasia, which limits his speech. In May 2024 he released “Where That Came From”, his first new song in more than a decade, with his voice rebuilt by AI.

CBS News walked through how Warner Music Nashville did it. Producer Kyle Lehning and the label pulled 42 Travis tracks from the vault and stripped away the music, leaving only the vocal. Singer James DuPre then sang the new song, and the AI laid Travis’ voice over DuPre’s performance.

Lehning still shaped the result by ear, with Travis part of the decisions. “It’s not about how it sounds; it’s about how it feels,” he told CBS. (My explainer on what an AI voice is covers the general version.)

Travis isn’t the only one. Samuel Smith used AI to finish an album after Parkinson’s took his guitar playing, and the late rapper Eyedea’s mother built a 14-song album from his cloned vocals. Songwriters pitching Luke Bryan even run a quicker version of the same swap, putting an AI clone of his voice on their demos.

A Stuart record would land in a busy genre. Audio Adrenaline’s 2 Grammys came in a gospel category, and gospel nearly doubled to 14% of AI releases in SIQA’s Mid-Year 2026 report.

So far Stuart has a drummer who wants back in and 157 comments to read through. If the fans say yes, Randy Travis’ single shows what that kind of record can sound like.
