Samori Coles has produced records for 30 years. Now he directs AI music videos too.

Samori Coles has engineered and produced records for 30 years. He still owns Lil’ Drummaboy Recordings, the Philadelphia studio he built, and he still works in it. Since 2024 he also directs AI music videos, and one of them is the video for “Love Notes” by Olivia B. Moore, an AI R&B record that reached No. 1 on the SIQA Top 20 AI R&B Songs chart.

His title now reads generative AI director and producer. The title is new. The résumé under it is not. Coles started as an engineer, moved to producing, then to songwriting, in rooms where a record either worked or it didn’t. He is a Voting Member of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the GRAMMYs, and he sits on the Creative Advisory Council at SIQA, the group that built the first AI music charts.

The tools are open to everyone. Anyone can open a video model tonight and generate something. The scarce part is knowing which of the 200 generations is the one, and Coles spent three decades building exactly that reflex on records instead of footage.

He is blunt about the difference on his own site.

You can watch what the reflex produces. The “Love Notes” video went up on Olivia B. Moore’s channel on June 9, 2026, credited to Coles as director and creator. The song had already climbed from No. 10 to No. 2 on the SIQA Top 100 AI Songs chart over five weeks, which SIQA’s Q1 report called the strongest organic rise in its dataset. The video arrived for a record with an audience already attached.

The rest of the directing catalog runs wider than music videos. “Agent Acevedo” for Guns & Gars Music adapts Brian Gordon’s book about a young Marine whose night out cost him his freedom. He also takes VFX work on feature films and builds brands for AI music creatives.

Then there is “Summer in December,” a micro-drama about Coles himself, from growing up in Omaha to owning the studio in Philadelphia. The 44-second trailer is the fastest way to see what he means by cinematic.

There was no honest feedback loop for this work before. Comment sections give you praise or abuse, and neither one tells you why your second act drags. A room where a 30-year engineer watches your video and names the problem is the closest thing AI music video makers have to a mix review.
