A small white sparkle had been sitting in the bottom-right corner of the Club Ironmouse album cover since January 2026. It was a Google Gemini watermark, the mark Gemini puts on images it generates.
Nobody caught it until Fortnite added Ironmouse’s “Meow” as a Jam Track on September 19, with the same art. On October 3, Trap Nation, the music network behind the release, said AI had been used and apologised, POPTOPIC reported.
By October 6 the cover had been replaced on Fortnite, Spotify and Apple Music, according to GosuGamers.
How fans found the Gemini watermark on the Club Ironmouse cover
A Reddit user posted screenshots of the Jam Track art and pointed at the corner. The sparkle sits over a pink bat, right next to the cover’s own decorative stars, so it read as part of the design for months.
Ironmouse is a Puerto Rican VTuber and singer, and Club Ironmouse is her first full-length album: 13 electronic tracks, including recordings from her Club Ironmouse concert. She answered on October 2.
“I had no idea thanks for bringing it to my attention,” she wrote. “My team has contacted the people in charge of this particular release and demanded it to be changed.”
The artist behind the Club Ironmouse logo, Detetiive, said they made the logo in Procreate and Adobe Illustrator and weren’t involved in the album cover. Then Trap Nation confirmed the rest.
The artwork was not intended to be final, and Ironmouse was unaware AI had been used.
Fans reacted fast because of Ironmouse’s own record on AI. In May she cancelled a sponsored Neverness to Everness stream after learning the game used generative AI for some assets, and said the developer had told her team there was no AI in it.
What a Gemini watermark on cover art does and doesn’t tell you about the music
The visible sparkle tells you one thing: Gemini touched that image. It says nothing about the audio.
“Meow” is credited to Ironmouse, Sleeping Forest and HalaCG on Apple Music, and nobody has shown evidence that any of the music on Club Ironmouse was AI-generated. Checking the audio would take a different test entirely.
There’s also a reason this one got caught. The cover came out in January, and Google only added a setting to switch off Gemini’s visible watermark on August 14, 2026. An image made today can leave Gemini with no visible mark at all, while the invisible SynthID watermark stays embedded.
Here’s the check I’d run on any artwork before it goes to your distributor:
- Zoom into all 4 corners at full size. The Gemini sparkle is small and easy to mistake for decoration.
- Ask Gemini whether the image carries SynthID. Google’s invisible watermark survives crops and screenshots, so it’s there even when the sparkle isn’t.
- Get it in writing. Ask the designer how the art was made, and whether any AI tool was used, before you sign off.
The same goes for the audio side of a release. My guide on how to tell if a song is AI-generated covers what detection can and can’t prove.
