Chronixx wants AI albums in a separate category, and SIQA's AI Music Awards already has one

Chronixx wants AI albums judged separately. On October 10, 2026, his birthday and one year after his album Exile came out, the Jamaican reggae singer wrote on Instagram that albums made with LLMs and machine learning should compete in a separate category.

First-round voting for the 2027 Grammys opens today, October 12, and DancehallMag counts Exile among the leading Best Reggae Album contenders. The Grammys have no AI category. SIQA’s AI Music Awards has one, AI Album of the Year, and names its first winner in Los Angeles next month.

What Chronixx wrote about AI albums on Instagram

The line sits in a birthday post. Right before it, he gives respect to the musicians and technicians who took Exile from 2-inch tape to people’s homes. So the AI point comes straight after he credits the humans on his own record.

He doesn’t name the Grammys or say where a human album ends and a machine learning album begins. DancehallMag’s Claude Mills read it as a Grammy call because of the timing. Chronixx knows that race: Chronology got him a Best Reggae Album nomination at the 2018 Grammys.

Can AI music win a Grammy in 2027?

Only with a human doing a meaningful part. The 69th Grammy Awards rulebook says only human creators can be entered, nominated or win, and a work with no human authorship isn’t eligible in any category.

AI material inside a work is allowed on 3 conditions:

• The human part is meaningful, more than a trivial share.
• It fits the category: human music or lyrics for songwriting awards, a human performance for performance awards.
• Nobody gets nominated for the part the AI made.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. told grammy.com in June 2026 that these 2023 rules still stand.

That’s what makes Chronixx’s ask tricky. Fully AI-generated albums are already shut out. So a separate Grammy category would either let them in for the first time, or move AI-assisted albums out of genre categories like Best Reggae Album, where they compete today.

SIQA AI Music Awards 2026 already has an AI Album of the Year

SIQA, the Sonic Intelligence Academy behind the AI music charts, holds the first AI Music Awards on November 12 and 13, 2026 in Los Angeles, with the main show at The Mayan. AI Album of the Year is 1 of its 25 categories.

Only artists verified in the SIQA Verified Registry could enter, with AI use disclosed, and verified AI artists vote the winners. (I sit on SIQA’s Creative Advisory Council.)

The SIQA framework also sorts registered tracks into 3 tiers: AI-Assisted, Human + AI Hybrid and Fully AI-Generated. Human lyrics over Suno-made music count as AI-Assisted, and Chronixx’s post doesn’t say which of the 3 belong in his separate category.

SIQA names its first AI Album of the Year winner by November 13. On November 16, the Recording Academy announces whether Exile is a Best Reggae Album nominee.
