If you’ve ever dabbled with AI music generators and felt the process was a bit… random, you’re in for a treat. Suno has just rolled out a brand-new feature called “Replace Section,” (Pro and Premium tier users only) and it’s shaking things up in the best way possible.
Making AI music creation feel like the real deal
Let’s be honest, using text prompts to generate songs can sometimes feel like throwing darts in the dark. You hope for a bullseye but often end up missing the mark. But with Suno’s latest feature, you’re not just hoping anymore—you’re crafting.
Imagine being able to tweak specific sections of your AI-generated song, just like you would in a real studio session. With “Replace Section,” you can now replace or rewrite parts of your song, making the experience feel much closer to traditional songwriting. You’re building your track piece by piece, figuring out what works and what doesn’t. It’s a game changer!
How does it work? Let’s dive in:
Getting started is a breeze:
Step 1 – Go to your library
Pick your song and click on the three dots.
Select “Edit” & click on “Replace Section.”
Step 2 – Replace Section
Choose the section you’d like to replace or alter.
Note: You can select up to 30 seconds.
Adapt the lyrics in the lyrics section.
Change up the style or add new elements in the music style section.
Fancy a guitar solo? Go for it!
This feature is available for Pro and Premium tier users.
Pro tips for best results:
- Edit Song Details First: Make sure the displayed lyrics match what’s being sung. If not, tweak them. For songs created after September 2024, Suno will alert you if lyrics need editing.
- Select a Bit Extra: When choosing a section to replace, add a few extra seconds on both sides for smoother transitions.
- Double-Check Lyrics: In the lyrics confirmation popup, ensure the “Lyrics Being Replaced” are accurate. Edit if necessary.
Why this feature matters
Anyone who’s used AI music tools knows that auto-generated lyrics can be… well, let’s say “unique.” Repetitive phrases and odd word choices can make songs less than stellar. Until now, you either had to accept the quirks or start from scratch using the Custom feature.
But with “Replace Section,” you can now fine-tune your songs on the fly. Got a lyric that doesn’t sit right? Highlight it, delete it, and write in something that truly resonates with your vision. It’s like having a virtual studio at your fingertips.
The bigger picture: Suno’s evolution in AI music
This update is just the latest move in Suno’s journey to revolutionize AI-generated music. After raising significant funding to enhance music creation through AI (read more about Suno’s growth here), they’ve been consistently rolling out features that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Earlier updates from Suno included a “Cover” feature, allowing users to rework a song’s melody in different styles. While it’s still in beta and results can vary, it’s exciting to see these platforms continuously innovating.
I recently took Suno 3.5 for a spin, and the results were impressive. If you’re curious about how it performs, you can check out my experience here.
A win-win for users
The beauty of this feature is in its simplicity and effectiveness. Highlighting words while selecting sections makes it easy to see exactly what you’re editing. Although you can’t edit single words (sections must be at least 10 seconds), the ability to rework significant portions of your song without starting over is a massive leap forward.
Sure, there’s room for improvement—like more precise editing options—but this is a significant step toward making AI music creation feel more like traditional songwriting.
Final thoughts: The future sounds good
Suno’s “Replace Section” feature is more than just an update; it’s a shift toward a more immersive and creative AI music experience. By giving us more control over our creations, Suno is bridging the gap between AI randomness and human artistry.
So, if you’ve been on the fence about AI music generators, now might be the perfect time to jump in and give Suno a spin. Who knows? You might just create your next hit.
