- A stem is a mixed group of related tracks printed as one audio file, so a drum stem holds the whole kit and the 4 standard stems sum back to the finished mix.
- Exported stems null against the mix. AI-separated stems are a model's reconstruction, and only iZotope RX, SpectraLayers and UVR's MDX-Net mode pass a null test.
- The best public model scores 12.33 dB SDR on vocals and 18.64 dB on the instrumental, but about 9 dB on the other stem, where guitar and piano live (MVSEP Multisong leaderboard, July 2026).
