Meek Mill wants artists to build their own streaming apps with AI, and he wants OpenAI or Anthropic to help. In 4 posts on X on October 9, 2026, the Philadelphia rapper asked to “link somebody from open ai or Anthropic for 2 missions”: AI classes in Philadelphia schools, and software that makes artists, investors and supporters more money.

No product, partner or launch date exists yet, and Baller Alert, which first reported the posts, says he hasn’t announced a partnership with either company. His first post still drew 137,000 views in 6 hours, per the screenshot Baller Alert published.

What Meek Mill asked OpenAI and Anthropic for on X

The school mission comes first: classes where kids “learn more rapid in fun ways”, each taught at their “learning comfort level”.

The second mission is the one for musicians: “software or a eco system for artist, investors and supporters that makes more money for all”, because “the way we calculate how we get paid and collect data is fully out dated”.

Then he got specific. “If distrokidd erased your catalog use ‘ai or si’ to make your own app or software,” he wrote, because AI “can make you a stripe ‘paywall’ set price for people to hear your music see your content!”

DistroKid is the distributor Universal Music Group sued on September 15, 2026. Artists were reporting DistroKid removals tied to UMG’s claims that same week, and DistroKid confirmed the takedowns on October 10.

Then the math: “Streaming 1500 times to equate a sale and all artist priced the same on platforms is hurting music business … it’s time for a change!!!!” The 1,500 figure comes from the RIAA’s certification formula, so it decides when a record goes gold, not what an artist gets paid.

Spotify’s own royalties guide says fans don’t pay per song and no major service pays a fixed rate per stream. That’s his “priced the same” point: a subscriber pays the same monthly fee whoever they play. Busta Rhymes said in September that streaming still hasn’t figured out artist pay.

Meek’s AI push has been building all year. In March he said he runs his music and business through Claude, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, and in August he posted that “Nothing teaches me better than AI”, per Complex.

So could an artist build what he’s describing?

Can artists build their own streaming app with AI, the way Meek Mill describes?

Honestly, the checkout part, yes, today. Stripe Payment Links creates a full payment page “in just a few clicks” with no code, for a one-off sale or a subscription. Lovable can build the page around it from a prompt, as my guide to selling music with Lovable shows.

What a prompt won’t hand you:

  • Rights. You can only sell songs you control, so a sample or a co-write brings other owners into the deal.
  • Delivery. The audio has to play for a fan who paid and stay locked for one who didn’t.
  • Fans. A paywall earns nothing until people want through it, and the 4 artists who moved 200,000+ fans onto lists they own show what that takes.

Bandcamp already works this way, with artists setting their own prices, and it still laid off most of its remaining engineers in July.

For now it’s 4 posts and 137,000 views on the first one. The next move belongs to OpenAI and Anthropic.

Frequently asked questions

Has Meek Mill signed a deal with OpenAI or Anthropic?

No deal has been announced. Meek Mill's October 9, 2026 posts on X were a public request to be connected with someone at OpenAI or Anthropic, and Baller Alert reported the same day that he had not announced a partnership with either company or with Philadelphia's school district.

How does Meek Mill use Claude in his music business?

In March 2026 Meek Mill said on X that he uses Claude to organize his music and business, working from a template a contact he met on LinkedIn gave him, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He has also described asking Claude to break a contract down into plain language before he takes it to his lawyers.

What did Meek Mill mean by streaming 1,500 times to equate a sale?

He was pointing at the RIAA's certification formula, where 1,500 on-demand audio or video streams count as 1 album sale. That formula decides gold and platinum awards, not artist pay. Spotify says it pays royalties by each artist's share of total streams, with no fixed rate per stream.

How much did Meek Mill say he earned from his early record deals?

On Philadelphia streamer Raud's stream in June 2025, Meek Mill said he received 13% of his earnings for the first 13 years of his career, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. As an independent artist, he said he now gets 100%.
