Record labels had a new challenge last week when Xania Monet joined meetings but did not turn on her camera or sing live. Xania Monet is an AI R&B artist made by Telisha Jones, a 31-year-old from Mississippi who owns a design studio. On September 16, 2025, Xania signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Hallwood Media. Jones used Suno’s platform to turn her poetry into music that climbed the charts. Some big labels stepped back because of a copyright lawsuit against Suno.
Manager Romel Murphy says Jones has written poetry for years. About 90 percent of the lyrics come from her real life. Jones owns the songwriting and production credits. She plans to work with human producers next. Murphy calls the music “real R&B” and says there is a real artist behind it. They are getting publishing offers and planning Xania’s first live show.
Hallwood Media’s Neil Jacobson is signing more AI talent. In July, he signed imoliver, the first Suno creator with a record deal. More people in the industry now accept AI-made music, even with ongoing legal fights between Suno and indie artists. The Copyright Office’s recent AI report brings more questions as AI artists become more common in music.
