This is part 1 of an interview I did with AI artist China Styles in December 2025.

Key Highlights

  • China Styles turns old diary entries into AI songs
  • Her song helped thousands of people feel less alone
  • She earned enough to buy a house within months

China Styles never planned to create music. She filled over 50 journals with feelings she couldn’t afford to share with a therapist. She grew up as the only black child in a white family. Five brothers bullied her.

Her mother didn’t protect her. “My entire family is your color and I’m the only black one. So they treated me as such” – China said.

She wrote everything down.

In April 2024, she discovered Suno AI and decided to transform those painful memories into something healing.

She fed her old diary entries into ChatGPT and asked the AI to structure her raw emotions into song lyrics. Then she used Suno to generate the music.

Margaret Bynum is the woman behind China Styles. She explains her process. “I take my notes from 1995, 1998, and I put them into ChatGPT. I literally cried because I was like damn and then when I copied it and I put it into Suno and she gave me that sound I literally cried.

Her gospel and R&B approach connected with people right away. “Black Sheep Turned Goat” went viral on TikTok.

Listeners flooded her inbox. They told her “you put the words I was feeling into a song.” The therapeutic impact surprised her. Research shows music therapy reduces depression. China Styles became living proof.

The response validated her approach to what she calls “Confessions of Diary.” Strangers share stories of her songs providing reasons to live.

Before signing with Hallwood Media’s AI roster, China Styles accumulated over 22 million streams.

She earned enough to move from a trailer to a house.

Her success mirrors the multimillion-dollar deals other AI artists are securing. This includes artists like Xania Monet. Authentic emotional connection transcends the technology behind the music.
