What is Lemonaide AI and how does it work?

Lemonaide AI is a desktop app generating melodies and chord progressions as MIDI and audio, founded in 2021 by hip-hop artist Michael “MJ” Jacob. In January 2026, BeatStars bought the company, a deal I covered in my BeatStars acquires Lemonaide article. The pitch: beat-block relief priced like a sample subscription.

How it works:

  1. Open the desktop app (Mac or Windows) and pick a model: Seeds 2.0 or a Collab Club artist model.
  2. Set key, scale, and mood, then generate melodies, chords, or both in 4 or 8-bar phrases.
  3. Audition results and edit any of it in the built-in piano roll.
  4. Drag the MIDI or audio into your DAW directly or through the VST Bridge plugin.
  5. Credits are deducted only for melodies you keep (about $0.05 per kept idea).

It fits beatmakers and producers who need melodic starting points faster than their fingers supply them.

How much does Lemonaide AI cost?

2 subscription products share the same price point.

PlanPriceWhat you get
Seeds$9.99/mo150 monthly credits with rollover, Seeds 1.0 + 2.0 models, MIDI + audio, VST Bridge
Collab Club$9.99/model/mo150 credits on an artist model trained with consent
Free trial$0Full-featured trial before subscribing

Pricing changes frequently, so verify current plans on the Lemonaide pricing page.

At $9.99 with credit rollover, a slow month doesn’t waste your subscription, which is rare in this category.

What is Collab Club and why does it matter?

Collab Club is the part worth watching: artist AI models built on consent instead of scraping.

  • Producers like Lex Luger, Kato On The Track, DJ Pain 1, Mantra, and KXVI hand over their MIDI to train personal models, and get paid for it.
  • Subscribers generate melodies in an artist’s melodic language for $9.99/month per model.
  • Releases under 1M streams stay royalty-free; past 1M, the melody gets cleared and royalties split.
  • I broke down the Lex Luger model in my Lex Luger AI model piece.

MusicRadar covered Seeds at its BeatStars launch in 2023; the consent-based training model is why the industry let it in the door.

How does Lemonaide AI compare to AudioCipher and Staccato?

All 3 generate MIDI; the entry point differs.

Choose AudioCipher for a one-time purchase. Choose Staccato to grow ideas you already have. Choose Lemonaide for a steady stream of new melodic seeds, especially if an artist model matches your genre.

What are some use cases for Lemonaide AI?

  • Beat-block first aid: generate 10 melodic ideas in the key of your drums and keep the 1 worth building on.
  • Type-beat production: a Collab Club model gets you into a named producer’s melodic lane, legally.
  • Chord progressions for toplines: generate chords, then write your melody over them.
  • MIDI you can edit: unlike audio loops, every note is editable in your DAW’s piano roll.
  • Learning melody writing: study what the model does with your chosen key and mood.

The credit-on-keep model fits how producers work: generate a lot, commit to little.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lemonaide AI free?

There’s a full-featured free trial, but ongoing use costs $9.99/month for Seeds. Generations are unlimited; credits are spent only on the melodies you keep.

Are Lemonaide melodies royalty-free?

Seeds output is 100% royalty-free. Collab Club output is royalty-free for leases and placements under 1M streams; above 1M, the melody needs clearance and a royalty split.

Does Lemonaide export MIDI?

Yes. Every generation comes as MIDI and audio, editable in the built-in piano roll and draggable into your DAW via the app or the VST Bridge plugin.

Which platforms does Lemonaide run on?

Windows 10+ and macOS 14+ (Apple silicon and Intel), with an internet connection required. There’s no mobile version.

Who owns Lemonaide AI?

BeatStars acquired Lemonaide in January 2026. Founders MJ Jacob and Anirudh Mani now lead AI development across BeatStars.
