Key Highlights
- Landr acquired Stockholm-based Reason Studios on January 7, 2026, adding the Reason DAW to its AI-powered music production platform
- Reason will keep its brand identity while Landr plans to add AI-powered features, collaboration tools, and deeper integrations
- The deal marks private equity firm Verdane’s exit after backing Reason since 2017
Montreal-based Landr has acquired Reason Studios, the Swedish company behind the iconic Reason DAW first launched in 2000. The deal, announced January 7, 2026, brings together Landr’s decade of AI mastering expertise with Reason’s distinctive virtual rack interface and instrument library. Teams will align across Montreal and Stockholm, though no purchase price was disclosed.
“This isn’t about changing Reason, it’s about giving it room to grow,” says Landr CEO Pascal Pilon. Landr promises to preserve Reason’s products and community while adding AI-powered features and collaboration tools. A new Artist Council of producers and longtime users will shape the roadmap. The acquisition also marks Verdane’s exit from its 2017 investment.
This deal follows Suno’s WavTool acquisition in June 2025, which powered its Suno Studio launch. The pattern is clear: AI tools are becoming DAWs while DAWs are adding AI. For producers comparing options, the best AI mixing and mastering tools now include companies racing to own the full production workflow.
