Taylor Swift’s new single just set a Spotify record, and part of the internet says it sounds like an AI song about trains.

“Patient Zero” came out on September 25, 2026, as the lead single from The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, the deluxe edition of her 2025 album. Spotify confirmed it became the platform’s most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day this year, which LatestLY puts at 13.7 million streams.

Then the comparisons started. On Threads, one listener wrote: “Taylor Swift’s new song Patient Zero sounds exactly like that f*cking song about how they transport large metal coils.” They added: “It’s driving me insane that no one else has noticed.”

What the viral AI steel coil song on TikTok is

The song people mean is one of the AI-generated “educational” songs that explain why steel coils ride on their side when trains carry them. Versions have been circulating on TikTok since at least September 2025, and other creators have kept making new ones.

It’s the same kind of AI trend as the AI Viking rap songs that spread on TikTok: a topic nobody would normally write a song about, set to AI-generated music.

Listeners are comparing the sound of the two songs. Another Threads user quoted by Soap Central went further:

LatestLY reports that several users openly asked whether the song sounds AI-generated, and some longtime fans called it “one of her weakest tracks yet.”

Nothing in the reporting points to AI being used. Swift co-wrote and co-produced “Patient Zero” with Max Martin and Shellback, and she has explained where it came from: a conversation with friends about being contacted by an ex’s new girlfriend. The video, directed by Swift and starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, premiered at the MTV VMAs on September 27.

Swift has been on the receiving end of AI before. A fake “official” AI music video of hers went up on YouTube in March, and in 2025 Grok generated explicit deepfake videos of her.
