The first AI jazz festival is real, it has a date, and it is happening at one of the most storied venues in music. AI.LOVE.JAZZ, billed as the world’s first global AI jazz contest and live event, runs July 9 and 10, 2026 at Casino Barrière Montreux in Switzerland. It lands during the 60th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival, on the same stretch of Lake Geneva shoreline where Queen built a studio and Miles Davis returned for two decades.

US producer MoneOnDaBeat gives a 20-minute masterclass on building tracks with AI.

July 10 is the Grand Finale Gala. After a night of talks on whether AI can help jazz grow, five-time Grammy winner Oscar Gómez announces the contest winners. The evening closes with Latin-jazz band PATAX and their fusion of flamenco, funk, and Afro-Cuban jazz.

Why Montreux is the venue for the first AI jazz contest

Claude Nobs founded the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1967, and this shoreline has been where music history happens ever since. The Casino Barrière balustrade still carries the first four notes of Smoke on the Water, etched into the metal after the 1971 fire that handed Deep Purple the song.

Putting AI music here, during the 60th edition, is a deliberate choice. The organizers want AI jazz judged next to the genre’s human traditions, not boxed off in a novelty bracket.

How AI.LOVE.JAZZ ran its global contest across five genres

The contest opened worldwide from April 1 to June 15, 2026, across the five genres Montreux is known for: jazz, soul, funk, blues, and melodic rock. Producers entered tracks built with AI music generators like Suno and Udio, and 15 finalists earned the live performance slot in front of The House Jazz Band.
