Australia's music industry week — a daytime conference and three nights of showcases, all in one neighbourhood.

• Four days in Brisbane every September. The 2026 edition is its 25th anniversary, 1-4 September.
• The theme is Creativity in Conversation.
• The BIGSOUND 100 play across Fortitude Valley venues over three nights.
• Everything happens in Fortitude Valley, which does more work than it sounds like — you can see the artists you came for rather than choosing between two rooms across town.

Only one of the two — and this is where people get caught.

• The festival ticket is not a cheaper version of the delegate pass. It is a different product, and it includes none of the conference, workshops, roundtables, delegate portal or official parties.
• The subscriber rate is worth chasing. It applies to paid QMusic subscribers plus members of 16 reciprocal organisations — and that list includes A2IM, so an American independent label already paying A2IM dues qualifies.
• Free memberships such as APRA AMCOS do not qualify, and proof gets checked when you collect the badge.
• All prices are in Australian dollars and GST free.

Book it if you are:

• An Australian or New Zealand artist at an early stage. The BIGSOUND 100 is the showcase cohort, applications open months ahead, and the industry that matters for your career is in the room for four days.
• A label, manager or agent working the Australian market, or trying to enter it. Sounds Australia and the state music bodies are all here.
• A service provider selling into Australian music. This is small enough that being present registers.

Skip it if you are:

One panel out of roughly 45 — and I can be precise because the 2026 schedule is fully published.

• “Artistic Intelligence: Industry Discussion on AI”, a panel opening the Wednesday at 9:00am. That is the only session substantively about AI.
• “Who Owns This Image?” on the Thursday may touch adjacent territory, but it is not billed as AI and I am not counting it.
• No AI track, no named container, no co-located programme.
• The rest is career development — artist conversations with Julia Jacklin and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, panels on superannuation, burnout, regional touring, First Nations industry review and sync.

That is a fair reflection of where the argument sits in Australia rather than an oversight. The licensing fight that dominates the American and European conferences is being had loudest where the major rightsholders and the AI companies are, and neither is headquartered in Brisbane.

If AI programming is what you are picking a conference for, this is not it — The NAMM Show has a named AI programme and IMS Ibiza ran five substantive AI sessions in 2026. If four days of concentrated access to the Australian industry is what you need, nothing else on this list comes close.
