What is Reeperbahn Festival?
A club festival that takes over a neighbourhood, with a full industry conference running through it.
- Four days across St Pauli, in bars, clubs and theatres rather than a convention centre.
- Around 4,500 industry visitors, more than 50 conference sessions and roughly 20 one-to-one mentoring slots.
- The 2026 motto is “Forever Legit” — the programme asks whether the industry’s own practices still hold up for the next generation.
- Ukraine is the first ever Guest Country of Honour, with Music Export Ukraine bringing panels, delegates and showcases.
The setting does more work here than at most events. Because the festival occupies a neighbourhood, the walk between two venues is where half the useful conversations happen.
Is this the Reeperbahn, or the festival?
Two different things, and the street outruns the festival in search by roughly five to one.
- The Reeperbahn is Hamburg’s entertainment and red-light strip. In Germany the bare word draws around 25,000 searches a month.
- Reeperbahn Festival is the music industry event held on and around it — roughly 5,100.
- Keep “Festival” attached when you search or book. Dropping it is how people end up reading nightlife guides.
Which ticket do you actually need?
Three tiers, and the under-30 rate is the best value in European music.
- All conference sessions
- Mentoring sessions
- Networking programme
- Everything in the Conference Ticket
- Anyone aged 30 or over
- Showcase venues
- Conference sessions
- Mentoring sessions
The Pioneer Pass is the point. At €85 for anyone under 30 it is not a stripped-back student rate — it is conference access at 70% off. Against ADE’s Pro Pass or a SXSW music badge that is a different order of expense at the start of a career, and it is the single strongest argument for making Reeperbahn your first international conference.
The trap is the one every hybrid event has: a festival ticket includes none of the conference. If you want the professional programme, buy the professional ticket.
Who should actually book this trip?
Book it if you are:
- Under 30 and working in music. €85 makes this the cheapest serious conference room on the continent.
- A European artist chasing a first international showcase slot.
- A label, agent or manager working European markets. September sits ahead of the winter booking cycle, and Germany is the second-largest market in Europe.
- Building an export route into Germany. The Guest Country of Honour strand is a signal about how the festival wants to be used.
Skip it if you are:
- After North American contacts. SXSW and A2IM Indie Week are those trips, and Reeperbahn is not a substitute.
- Expecting a quiet conference hotel and a printed grid. This is a club festival that also runs a conference, in a neighbourhood built for staying out late. That is either the appeal or the problem.
What is Music Frontiers?
A separately framed strand inside the festival, and the first place to look if technology is why you are coming.
- Its own programme, aimed at global trends rather than the main grid’s artist-facing material.
- Innovation, sustainability and the future of the music business are the stated themes.
- Worth checking separately. The main conference grid is broader and more A&R-led than Music Frontiers suggests, so the two need looking at side by side.
How much AI is on the programme?
Present as a theme, not as a track — and the difference is the whole rating.
- One of five named theme areas is “Technology, digitalization & new working environments”, which Reeperbahn describes as covering “AI and algorithms to platform policy and new tools”, taking “a critical, practical approach with a focus on responsibility and transparency”.
- The clearest AI session title is “State of Music Marketing 2026: From Creators and Clipping to AI: The Key Trends Shaping Digital Song Marketing” — a data-led look at what actually moves song marketing campaigns.
- No session count is claimed here. The programme browser paginates and a full tally was not possible without a delegate login. Across what I could read, AI appears as one force among several rather than the organising question.
- Rated: some AI sessions, assessed on the 2026 edition. A theme area with AI inside it is a real commitment, but it is not a dedicated container.
The framing is worth noting. “Responsibility and transparency” and the “Forever Legit” motto point at the same argument the European rights bodies are having — and Germany is where the GEMA case against Suno is being fought. If you want that argument discussed by the people it lands on, this is a good room for it.
For a named AI programme rather than AI threaded through a technology theme, The NAMM Show is the benchmark, and IMS Ibiza ran the deepest single slate of AI sessions in this directory in 2026.
What does it actually look like?
Music Frontiers
Global trends shaping the music industry, run as its own strand inside the festival with international experts and industry leaders.
Programmed around innovation, sustainability and the future of the music business. Worth checking separately from the main conference grid if technology and market structure are why you are coming.
Where is it, and can you walk between venues?
St Pauli, Hamburg, Germany Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Get directions →- Everything is walkable. The festival takes over one neighbourhood rather than a city — venues run off the Reeperbahn and the side streets around it.
- The Festival Village on Heiligengeistfeld is where registration, press accreditation and the conference hub sit. Budget ten minutes on foot from the Reeperbahn itself.
- S-Bahn Reeperbahn and U-Bahn St Pauli both put you on the strip. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is around fifteen minutes by S-Bahn.
- Hamburg Airport is about 30 minutes by S1, changing at Hauptbahnhof or Landungsbrücken.
- Book early. St Pauli hotels sell out for the festival week and the cheaper options are a stop or two out towards Altona.
When are the next editions?
Common questions
When is Reeperbahn Festival 2026?
16 to 19 September 2026, four days across St Pauli in Hamburg. The conference programme and the showcase festival run in parallel through the same days.
Is Reeperbahn Festival the same as the Reeperbahn?
No. The Reeperbahn is Hamburg's famous entertainment and red-light street in St Pauli, which draws far more searches than the festival does. Reeperbahn Festival is a music industry conference and showcase festival held there each September.
How much is a Reeperbahn Festival conference ticket?
284 euros for the full professional conference ticket. Anyone under 30 can buy the Pioneer Pass for 85 euros, which is the same conference access at roughly 70% off. Festival tickets are separate and start at 59 euros for one day.
What is the Reeperbahn Festival Pioneer Pass?
The under-30 conference ticket, priced at 85 euros against the standard 284. It gives conference access rather than a reduced version of it, which makes Reeperbahn one of the cheapest serious industry conferences in Europe for anyone early in their career.
How big is Reeperbahn Festival?
Around 4,500 music industry visitors attend the professional side, with over 50 conference sessions and around 20 one-to-one mentoring sessions. That is large enough to matter and small enough that you can work the room in four days.
What is the Guest Country of Honour at Reeperbahn Festival?
A new strand introduced for 2026, with Ukraine as the first country selected, run in partnership with Music Export Ukraine. It brings panels, networking with Ukrainian delegates and live showcases from that scene into the main programme.
