What is A2IM Indie Week?
The only major event built specifically around the US independent label sector.
- Three days every June in New York, inside one hotel on West 44th Street.
- Run by A2IM, a not-for-profit trade body representing more than 700 independently owned American labels.
- The room is labels, distributors, DSPs and agencies, and almost everyone in it works on the independent side.
- That focus is the whole value. It is not a general conference that happens to include independents.
Is this the same as Indie Week in Canada?
No — two unrelated events sharing a name, and the confusion costs people plane tickets.
- A2IM Indie Week is this one: New York, June, business conference, independent label sector.
- Indie Week is a showcase festival for emerging artists, held in Ottawa in November.
- The tell is the month and the city. June in New York is A2IM. November in Canada is not.
What do the three days look like?
Panels, workshops and networking, run tightly inside one venue rather than spread across a city.
- Recurring subjects: AI, touring, marketing, sync licensing, industry predictions and DSP workshops.
- The DSP sessions are the standout. Getting Spotify, Apple, Amazon and YouTube in workshop format rather than on a panel is unusual and practically useful.
- The Libera Awards, A2IM’s own awards for independent music, run during the week.
- After-hours mixers and special events are where most of the actual relationship-building lands.
- International delegations attend in numbers — historically AIM from the UK, France Rocks, CIMA from Canada, Music From Ireland, Music Norway and Sounds Australia. If you are outside the US and want American distribution contacts, those delegations are the cheapest way in.
At the 2016 edition A2IM reported over 820 label executives from 18 countries and 24 states — small enough to work a room, large enough that the room is worth working.
What catches people out when registering?
Three specifics worth knowing before you pay.
- All panels and workshops
- DSP workshops
- Libera Awards week
- On-demand catch-up
- Single-day attendance
- Anyone under 18
- Panels on demand ~24h after
- 30 days of rewatching
- The mixers and side events
- No single-day badges. Badges cover the full three days only. If you can make one day, you are still paying for three.
- Strictly 18+, no exceptions — which matters if you planned to bring a younger artist.
- There is an online-only badge, for members and non-members, giving on-demand access to panels about 24 hours after they run with 30 days of rewatching. In-person holders get the same access, so nothing is lost by travelling. For anyone weighing a transatlantic flight against a first look at the sector, it is an honest option.
- The cheapest tier closes the day before the conference opens, and member and non-member pricing differ.
Who should actually book this trip?
Book it if you are:
- Running an independent label. This is the event designed for your problems, and nothing else on this list is.
- A distributor, publisher or service company selling to independents. Your buyers are here in concentration, and the delegation structure means international ones are too.
- An artist running your own label or releases as a business. You will be one of the few artists in the room — less competition for attention, but the programming assumes you operate as a company.
Skip it if you are:
- Hoping to perform. No showcases, no A&R pitching. For that, Indie Week in Ottawa or SXSW.
- Major-label, or working entirely outside the US market. Music Biz covers similar ground with a broader room, and BIME is the better trip for Spanish-language markets.
How much AI is on the programme?
Present and prioritised, but not organised as its own stream.
- A2IM lists AI first when describing what its programming covers — ahead of touring, marketing, sync licensing, predictions and DSP workshops. For a body representing 700 labels, that ordering is itself information.
- It shows up as a rights and revenue question, not a technology showcase. Less about what the tools do, more about who is getting paid and who is being asked to accept terms.
- Independent labels have the least leverage over how their catalogues get used for training and the most exposure when licensing terms are set without them.
- No session-level count was possible — the 2026 grid sits behind closed registration.
That fight is live and A2IM is on one side of it. 31 creator organisations demanded consent and fair pay before labels sign AI deals, the core complaint being that majors can negotiate for catalogues independents also depend on. And the training-data question stays unresolved while Suno’s CEO doubles down on using copyrighted material.
For a named AI programme rather than AI threaded through business sessions, The NAMM Show remains the clearest case.

- Times Sq-42 St is two minutes on foot, putting most of Manhattan and Brooklyn within a single ride.
- JFK is about an hour by subway or AirTrain; Newark and LaGuardia are similar depending on traffic.

What is the difference between A2IM Indie Week and Indie Week in Canada?
They are unrelated events that share a name. A2IM Indie Week is a business conference for the US independent label sector, held in New York in June. Indie Week is a showcase festival and conference for emerging artists, held in Ottawa in November.

How much are A2IM Indie Week badges for members?
A2IM publishes a pricing chart with separate member and non-member rates, and members pay meaningfully less. Prices are not listed once a year's sale closes, so check the current chart on the Indie Week site. Online-only badges are cheaper than in-person for both groups.
What are the Libera Awards?
A2IM's own awards for independent music, presented during Indie Week. They are the independent sector's counterpart to the industry's major award shows, and the ceremony is one of the main social fixtures of the week.
