Boris FX acquired iZotope on July 2, 2026. The company behind RX, Ozone, Neutron and Nectar leaves the Native Instruments family, and every existing license and subscription keeps working. Deal terms were not disclosed.

What the Boris FX acquisition changes for iZotope users

Nothing breaks today. In the official announcement, iZotope’s Todd Baker, who stays on as VP of Product, wrote: “our products, licenses, and subscriptions remain fully active. Support continues through the same channels, from the same team.”

The acquisition FAQ goes one step further on the question producers care about most: iZotope remains committed to both perpetual licenses and subscriptions. The engineers behind Ozone and RX stay on the team.

How iZotope landed at its third owner in five years

The backstory takes a minute. iZotope merged with Native Instruments in 2021 under investment firm Francisco Partners, and the group was named Soundwide in 2022 after absorbing Plugin Alliance and Brainworx. When inMusic bought the Native Instruments group in May 2026, iZotope went its own way instead.

Its new home is not a stranger to audio. Boris FX built its name on VFX software like Sapphire and Mocha Pro, but it already sells Samplitude and Sequoia for recording and CrumplePop for voice cleanup.

For producers, the practical question is what happens to iZotope’s AI-assisted mixing and mastering line under a founder-led owner. Ozone still sets the benchmark most rivals get measured against, and Boris FX says plugin development continues without interruption.

Frequently asked questions

Do iZotope licenses and subscriptions still work after the Boris FX acquisition?

Yes. iZotope confirmed all products, licenses, and subscriptions remain fully active, with support running through the same channels and the same team. Users don't need to take any action, and downloads continue through the existing Product Portal.

Will iZotope keep selling perpetual licenses under Boris FX?

Yes. In its acquisition FAQ, iZotope said it remains committed to offering both perpetual licenses and subscriptions, so users can keep choosing between owning a plugin outright or paying monthly.

Why is iZotope no longer part of Native Instruments?

The Native Instruments group, which held Native Instruments, Plugin Alliance and Brainworx, was sold to inMusic in May 2026. iZotope took a separate path and was acquired by the VFX software company Boris FX on July 2, 2026.

What does Boris FX own besides iZotope?

Boris FX is the Academy and Emmy Award-winning company behind the VFX tools Sapphire, Continuum and Mocha Pro. Its audio side already includes Samplitude and Sequoia for recording and mastering, plus CrumplePop for voice cleanup.
