Suno powered 90.4% of commercially released AI tracks in Q1 2026, the SIQA report shows. See what the 1,551-song dataset means for producers.

Key highlights

  • 90.4% of artists submitting tracks to the SIQA charts in Q1 2026 used Suno, based on 1,551 verified submissions from 828 artists across 57 countries.
  • DistroKid handled 75.8% of those releases — Suno’s lead is partly a distribution story, not just a creative one.
  • The UMG/Sony lawsuits against Suno are structurally tied to the entire commercial AI music market. A Suno loss won’t stay with Suno.

The first verified numbers on commercial AI music

SIQA data showing 90.4% of AI music artists used Suno to produce their track in Q1 2026.

For the first time, there’s verified data on which platforms creators are using to release AI music commercially. The SIQA AI Music Charts published its Q1 2026 AI Music Intelligence Report on April 20, 2026, analyzing 1,551 track submissions from 828 artists across 57 countries. These aren’t estimates. They’re verified submissions tied to real streaming releases.

Suno powered 90.4% of them. BandLab came second at 3.6%. ElevenLabs and Udio each landed below 1%. The gap between first and second place is 86+ points.

Suno’s lead is a distribution story

SIQA distribution platform breakdown showing DistroKid at 75.8% dominance among AI music artists.

75.8% of SIQA submitters used DistroKid. Suno built direct distribution integrations that other platforms haven’t matched, creating a pipeline from AI generation to the most popular DIY distributor that compounds over time. The TaTa Taktumi record deal is a direct example: a Suno-powered artist signed with a label because that pipeline made commercial release accessible.

Udio’s sub-1% is explained by its walled-garden strategy. The platform banned downloads after signing major-label deals, which blocks the commercial release pipeline entirely.

ChatGPT’s 19.5% needs context: those are lyric-only co-writes, not AI-generated audio. A Muse Group survey of 1,200 musicians found 78% open to AI tools. The SIQA genre data shows where that openness is landing commercially: R&B/Soul leads at 31.7%, well ahead of Electronic/EDM at 5.5%.

What the SIQA report found

Music Ally’s coverage of the report includes a pointed quote from UMG’s Michael Nash: “Stories about number one AI songs have been reported based on digital download charts where 2,500 units of $0.99 legacy product can manufacture a chart number one.”

SIQA’s human-vs-AI breakdown was more nuanced than headlines suggest. Only 19% of submitters described their tracks as fully AI-generated. 48% said AI-assisted, 33% said Human + AI hybrid. SIQA’s own summary: “The human is still in the room.”

Suno’s dominance amplifies its legal exposure

Suno and Udio Logos: Suno and Udio logos side by side in black and white backgrounds.

The RIAA filed copyright infringement cases against Suno and Udio in June 2024. Suno has since settled with Warner Music Group, retiring models trained on unlicensed content. UMG and Sony cases remain active.

When one platform accounts for 90.4% of commercially released AI tracks, any settlement it reaches sets terms for the entire category. Suno’s copyright guardrails have already been bypassed using a basic Audacity trick — a liability that grows with its market share.

What this means for producers releasing AI music

Suno’s distribution pipeline is the most direct path to streaming right now. The US Copyright Office’s AI policy makes clear that tracks without meaningful human authorship aren’t copyrightable — but that applies across all platforms. The Suno-specific risk is what happens if UMG and Sony cases go against it this summer.

ElevenLabs is the platform to watch. Its Music Marketplace launched in March 2026, trained on licensed music via Kobalt and Merlin, without the litigation exposure attached to Suno’s catalog. Combined with the ElevenLabs Flows tool, it’s building toward a full commercial pipeline.

If you’re releasing now, learn the Suno Voices feature and watch the SoundOn AI fraud detection rollout. One expands what you can create. The other signals where platform enforcement is heading.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of commercially released AI music is made with Suno?

According to the SIQA AI Music Intelligence Report for Q1 2026, 90.4% of artists submitting tracks to the SIQA charts used Suno. The dataset covers 1,551 verified submissions from 828 artists across 57 countries.

Why is Udio’s share so low in commercial AI music data?

Udio banned downloads after signing deals with major labels, which blocks creators from distributing tracks to streaming services. Its architecture prevents the commercial release pipeline, so Udio-made tracks rarely appear in datasets like SIQA’s.

Is AI-generated music protected by copyright?

The US Copyright Office ruled in January 2025 that AI-generated outputs without meaningful human authorship aren’t copyrightable. Tracks where a human contributed original lyrics, melodies, or significant edits may qualify. Purely prompt-generated audio does not.

Which distributor do most AI music creators use?

The SIQA Q1 2026 data shows 75.8% of AI music submissions used DistroKid. TuneCore came second at 4.7%, followed by UnitedMasters at 3%, with CD Baby and LANDR both at 2.1%.

How does Suno’s UMG lawsuit affect producers releasing AI music?

Because Suno accounts for over 90% of commercially released AI music, any ruling or settlement in the UMG and Sony cases will set licensing terms for the entire category. Suno settled with Warner in 2026 and retired its unlicensed models. The UMG and Sony cases remain active as of April 2026.”
