What is M for Montreal?

A four-day discovery festival with a professional division attached, and Canada's most international showcase week.

  • 18-21 November 2026, across venues around Montreal rather than in one conference centre.
  • The 21st edition, with 28 artists in the 2026 official selection.
  • Two halves that run in parallel: the public festival presented by SiriusXM, and the PRO Division for delegates.
  • Billboard Canada partners the PRO programming for this edition.

What happens in the PRO Division?

Around 500 delegates, a conference programme, and two strands worth knowing about.

  • Roughly 500 Canadian and international delegates from labels, agencies, festivals, venues, media and cultural organisations.
  • Conferences, panels, showcases and networking activities built around dialogue and development rather than keynote theatre.
  • Supervision is the sync and music supervision strand.
  • Artist Lab is the development strand for artists in the selection.

The delegate list for 2026 publishes on the M site before the event, which is the practical way to judge whether the people you need are coming.

What does a PRO pass cost?

M promotes an early bird rate but does not publish the number.

  • Networking activities and special events
  • Showcase access across the four days

  • The PRO Division programme
  • The PRO ticketing page loads prices behind a booking widget, so there is no figure to quote here. This directory does not print prices it cannot source.
  • Festival tickets are separate and do not include the PRO Division.
  • Check the PRO ticketing page directly before you budget the trip, and note that the early bird window is advertised rather than dated.

For comparison, the two November events either side of this one publish nothing either: Indie Week did not publish 2026 pass prices in verifiable form.

Who should actually book this trip?

Book it if you are:

  • An international delegate looking for Canadian repertoire. This is the most outward-facing week in the Canadian calendar and the room is small enough to work properly.
  • A sync or music supervision professional. The Supervision strand exists for exactly that work.
  • An emerging artist already in the official selection. The Artist Lab and the delegate density are the reasons the slot is worth playing.

Skip it if you are:

  • Looking for a badge that guarantees stage time. Performing runs through the official selection call, which closed for 2026.
  • After a global buyer list in one trip. WOMEX has 700 exhibiting companies and 720 promoters; this is a focused national market with international guests.

How much AI is on the programme?

None published, and the shape of the event explains why.

  • Dates, the official selection and the PRO format were announced for 2026, but no session titles, speakers or track names had published when this was assessed.
  • The rating reflects what is published, not a claim that the panels will avoid the subject.
  • This is a discovery and export event built around emerging artists. AI enters that conversation as a workflow and promotion question, not as the rights and licensing fight that runs through the label-facing conferences.
  • The Supervision strand is the place to watch. Sync is where AI-generated music hits commercial licensing decisions first, and a music supervision programme is where that argument would surface if it surfaces at all.

If AI programming is the reason for the trip, Music Tectonics in October is the better-evidenced choice, and the SIQA Summit on 12 November is the only event on this calendar built entirely around AI music.

  • There is no single conference venue. The festival runs across iconic Montreal venues and the PRO programme moves with it, so read the daily schedule before booking a hotel.
  • Montreal is walkable and the metro is fast. Most showcase venues sit within the Plateau, Mile End and downtown corridor.
  • Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) is about 25 minutes from downtown by the 747 bus or a taxi.
  • November in Montreal is cold and cheap. Hotel rates are a fraction of what October costs in Amsterdam or New York.
  • The M office sits at 4316 Saint-Laurent Blvd, in the middle of the showcase corridor rather than in a convention district.

When are the next editions?

2026 Upcoming

18–21 November 2026, Various venues, Montreal, Quebec

The 21st edition, Wednesday to Saturday. 28 artists in the official selection, a PRO Division of around 500 delegates run in collaboration with Billboard Canada, and the public festival presented by SiriusXM.

Common questions

When is M for Montreal 2026?

18 to 21 November 2026, across multiple venues in Montreal. It is the 21st edition, running Wednesday to Saturday, with the PRO Division and the public festival happening in parallel.

What is the M for Montreal PRO Division?

The professional half of the event. It gathers around 500 Canadian and international delegates from labels, agencies, festivals, venues, media and cultural organisations for conferences, panels, showcases and networking activities. The 2026 edition runs it in collaboration with Billboard Canada, and there are dedicated strands including Supervision for sync and Artist Lab for development.

How much does an M for Montreal PRO pass cost?

Not published on the public site as of 16 September 2026. The ticketing page promotes an early bird PRO pass rate but loads its prices behind a booking widget rather than listing them, so check the PRO ticketing page directly. Festival show tickets are sold separately and do not include PRO access.

How do artists get into the M for Montreal official selection?

Through the call for artists, which runs earlier in the year. The 2026 official selection is 28 artists and was announced ahead of the event, so the window for this edition has closed. The selection is the route onto the showcase stages; a PRO pass does not come with stage time.

Is M for Montreal worth it for a delegate from outside Canada?

If you want Canadian repertoire or a route into the Canadian market, yes. The delegate list is deliberately international, the room is small enough that being present registers, and November hotel rates in Montreal are a fraction of the October conference cities. If you need a broad global buyer list instead, WOMEX and ADE do that better.

How is M for Montreal different from Indie Week?

Both are Canadian showcase events in November, and they are two weeks apart in 2026. Indie Week runs 12 to 14 November in Ottawa and is built around early-career development and the Canadian independent sector. M for Montreal runs 18 to 21 November, leans harder on international delegates and discovery, and pairs its PRO programme with Billboard Canada.
