Ronnie Romero says collaborators now send him AI-written vocal lines
AI-written vocal lines are now routine session material in hard rock. Ronnie Romero, the singer fronting Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Michael Schenker projects, said on August 8, 2026 he regularly receives melodies created with AI when working on collaborations. He posted the statement alongside an AI-generated image of himself.
Romero takes the drafts without complaint. Sometimes, he says, the musician sending them “simply doesn’t sing that well,” so the AI line stands in for a demo vocal. Then he gets to work on it.
I always warn them that I'll probably change a few things: a melody here, an interval there, a few little adjustments. Why? Because it simply doesn't always sound natural.
His verdict on the technology splits cleanly: “As a tool, I think AI is fantastic,” and a voice carries emotion, intention and the singer’s energy on the day, which he calls “extremely difficult to reproduce artificially.” He’s the second classic-rock veteran this year to describe AI as normal working equipment, after Rudy Sarzo called Suno his studio band.
